dripping tap

Eco Plumbing is a second generation local family plumbing business that has been fixing leaking taps for over 60 years, so chances are fixing your leaking tap won’t be a problem.
We carry parts from the major tapware manufacturers as well as a large inventory of standard fitting tap parts.

We will arrive at your door well equipped, so we’ll have your taps working as good as new.  Ask us to show you the extensive variety of new taps with styles to suit just about all bathrooms, kitchens and laundries.

What You Can Do

Turn taps off firmly, but avoid excessive force that may damage the tap washer and cause the tap to leak.

A hose attached to a tap in the garden could hide a leak which would be obvious to see if the hose was not attached. If you believe you have a leak but cannot see it check for leaking pipes by reading your water meter before you go to bed, then again in the morning. If there has been no water use overnight, and the reading has changed, you may have a leaking pipe and should seek advice from a plumber.

How Can We Help

If you find you have a leaking pipe or dripping tap eco plumbing can fix it for you quickly and without fuss. Eco Plumbing will professionally repair or replace your tap to get you up and running again. We carry a range of standard taps and mixer taps on board or can install any style of tap or mixer that you desire. Our tradesman will happily fix or repair your kitchen tap, kitchen mixer, bathroom tap, bathroom mixer, basin tap, basin mixer, shower tap, shower mixer, bath tap bath mixer or garden tap. So when that constant dripping gets annoying or you have tried to fix the tap and can't quite get it right eco plumbing can help.

Water Wise Facts

A dripping or leaky tap is not only annoying but it can waste a lot of water as well. One drop per second equals 7,000 litres of water wasted per year. In the table below you can see how much a water is lost from a dripping tap.

A Slow Drip = 750mls per day or 6,570 Litres per year. Whereas a Fast Drip = 10 Litres per day or 87,600 Litres per year

Most (99%) of the world’s water is salty or located in ice caps and glaciers. This means that just 1% of the world’s water supply is available for human use. We need to take care in how we use it. The natural cycle acts as a natural water filter but there is a limit to its effectiveness. Much of the clean water that falls as rain becomes polluted after it hits the ground, i.e. roads and gutters contribute oil, grease, litter, sediment and heavy metals to urban run-off that can spoil the environment. By reducing and reusing water and ensuring we do not pollute the water that flows into our creeks and waterways, we can look after the 1% of water on which we rely so heavily.

Other Water Saving Ideas

Turn the tap off when you brush your teeth. If you brush your teeth twice a day, for two minutes each time, and leave the tap running, you could be wasting around 12 litres (or just over a bucket) of water a day. That's over 4,300 litres per person, per year.

Use a plug in the basin when shaving rather than letting the tap run.

Install a water efficient showerhead. Not only will you save on your water bills, but using less hot water means you’ll also save on your energy bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. You’ll also save lots of water.

Reduce your showering time. Every minute you cut from your shower time could save up to nine litres of water if you have a ‘3 star’ rated water-efficient showerhead, and up to 20 litres if you have an older style, conventional showerhead.

Use the half flush option when possible on dual flush toilets.

Install a displacement device in the cistern (tank) of single flush toilets, as it can save you a litre of water every flush. You can do this by removing the lid of your cistern and carefully placing a one litre sealed plastic bottle filled with pebbles and water inside in a way that won’t interfere with the flushing mechanism.

Check for toilet leaks by placing a few drops of biodegradable food colouring into the cistern, and wait for 30 minutes. If you have a leaking toilet, you will see coloured water in the toilet bowl and need to contact a plumber. A slow, barely visible leak into your toilet bowl can waste more than 4,000 litres of water a year. Visible, constant leaks (with a hissing sound) can waste 95,000 litres a year.

About 13 per cent of household water is used in the laundry. Conventional top loading washing machines use an average of 120 to 150 litres of water each load.

Reduce the number of washing loads in a week and save water by combining smaller loads and only washing when you have a full load.

Adjust the water level to suit the size of your load and use the economy cycle, if your machine has one.

If you are buying a new washing machine, choose a water-efficient model with a water efficiency rating of '4 stars' * (or greater). A water-efficient washing machine can use up to 2/3 less water than an inefficient model..

About six per cent of household water is used in the kitchen. A running kitchen tap can use around nine litres of water a minute.

Instead of running water to wash vegetables or rinse dishes, put a plug in the sink or use a bowl.

Use your dishwasher only when you have a full load and use the economy cycle. Each time you use the dishwasher, you could be using between 18 and 40 litres of water—depending on the age of your dishwasher.

Use the ‘rinse and hold' setting, if your dishwasher has one, instead of rinsing dishes under the tap before placing them in the dishwasher.

On average, about 43 per cent of household water is used in the garden and for other outdoor use. In the cooler months, much less water is used outside, but there are still simple ways to save water.

Adjust your garden and lawn watering patterns for winter weather conditions and plant needs.

Wash your car on the lawn and water the grass at the same time.

Use a bucket for washing and rinsing your car. If you leave the hose running while washing your car, you could be wasting 20 litres of water a minute.

Use a rake or broom to clean paths and the driveway rather than a hose.

By collecting and redirecting rainwater from the roof to use in your home and garden, you can reduce demand on the public water supply. You can also reduce the amount of stormwater runoff that reaches our creeks and rivers, where it can cause downstream flooding and erosion.

Household appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers, toilets, taps and showers can use a lot of water. By checking the water efficiency rating when you next buy an appliance you can help save water, and save money on your water and electricity bills.
